Citizens of Drayton Valley and surrounding areas can expect to see two child-care centres in the community by early next year.
Lola Strand, community services manager for the Town of Drayton Valley, says it is also yet to be established, where exactly the new Early Learning Centre would be located.
The Town says Ray Labossiere and her team are preparing to open the new child-care centre in Drayton Valley in 2023.
Strand notes, however, the addition of another child-care centre in the community will help to reduce wait lists and provide parents with the supports they need to participate in the workforce and provide for their families.
“Our current child care centre has a waitlist. We are not able to accommodate all the need for child-care, so yeah, it’s important because there is a need that our child-care centre currently can’t meet. We have 68 children enrolled daily in our child-care centre and we have a waitlist of 75 children.”
In 2008, the Town established the Early Childhood and Development Centre, a Town-owned daycare centre to support local parents by providing access to quality child-care services in Drayton Valley. The Early Childhood and Development Centre is only one of three municipally-owned child-care centres in Alberta.
