The Drayton Valley Pro Rodeo is coming home.
The Seventh Annual Drayton Valley Pro Rodeo comes to the Drayton Valley Omniplex on April 29 – May 1, 2022. The Rodeo has not been held in the Omniplex since 2019. It was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, and in 2021 it was moved outdoors to the Buck Lake Stampede Grounds to comply with COVID restrictions.
Rodeo president Tyson Pietsch says it is good to be back inside.
“It is a whole different beast. You do not have to worry about the weather,” said Pietsch. “I mean, we want nice weather because it is spring. But if the weather is not good outside, you can always come inside and enjoy the rodeo.”
Pietsch estimates they have between 350 and 400 competitors in this year’s event.
“I think it is a little bit bigger than it was in 2019. I think there is just a little more enthusiasm. People just want to get out and do something,” speculates Pietsch.
Pietsch also extends his thanks to the sponsors, noting that this has been their second-best year for sponsorships.
“We are a little overwhelmed and humbled by the amount of support we are getting from the Drayton Valley businesses and surrounding area. They have come on board in a big way, and we really appreciate it.”
The Rodeo starts on April 28 with the timed slack events, which are open to the public for free. The first paid performance in on April 29 at 7 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. performance on April 30, and ending with a 2 p.m. performance on May 1.
