Brazeau County is getting ready to renovate Lodgepole’s hockey arena.
At county council’s March 8 meeting, administration was given the go-ahead to begin the full scope of renovations to the Lodgepole rink.
In February, administration was notified that the Lodgepole Recreation Society was successful in obtaining a Community Facilities Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant to help pay for the project. The grant is for $87,248.
Brazeau County had already budgeted $115,167 for the project. This now gives the County more than $200,000 to fund the renovations.
The CFEP grant is specifically for replacing the asphalt and installing new rink boards.

At county council’s March 8 meeting, council approved the dates for this year’s Household Hazardous Waste Roundup.
The initiative will be held May 31 to June 4 and again from June 7 to 11 at the old County shop site, located at 5524 Industrial Road in Drayton Valley.
On those days, County residents can take items such as household chemicals to the County shop for safe disposal.
Another roundup will be held at the Village of Breton’s Solid Waste Transfer Station on either June 4 or June 11.

At its meeting, council recognized Junior Development Officer Jenna Durkee for earning the Alberta chapter of the American Public Works Association’s Emerging Leader Award in 2021 for her previous work in the Public Works department.
The award recognizes emerging leaders in the public works sector for their positive impact of public works programs and services.
