The Drayton Valley Thunder are just one win away from winning their first-round AJHL playoffs series against the Lloydminster Bobcats.
They beat their foes from out east on the road 5-2 Wednesday night, and now have a 3-1 series lead.
The Thunder came out roaring, scoring multiple goals within the first five minutes.
The first came 52 seconds in from Kadyn Chabot, with the second at 3:03 off the stick of Rylan Brown. The first period ended with the Thunder ahead 2-0.
The visitors kept things going their way in the second, as Grayson Reid scored at 1:13 to make it 3-0.
The Bobcats started clawing back at 4:55, as Mack Stewart scored to cut Lloyd’s deficit to just two. Jordan Borysiuk then got the Bobcats another goal at 9:58, and it was a one-goal game all of a sudden.
But the Thunder held steady, and Ethan Browne scored at 12:52 to restore the two-goal lead, which is how the middle frame ended.
The teams played a mostly uneventful third, with Chabot finally icing it at 17:12 with an empty netter.
The Bobcats were not pushovers, outshooting the Thunder 52-34. Both teams came up empty on the power play, Drayton going 0/1 and Lloyd 0/4.
Drayton Valley can win the series on home ice in Game 5 on Friday. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. from the Drayton Valley Omniplex.
