Drayton Valley residents are going to see a two point five per cent increase in their taxes in 2022.
At their meeting Feb. 9, council passed their final Operating Budget for 2022.
How the tax increase breaks down is a zero point five per cent increase towards a sustainable tax levy which will be used in the sustainable management of the Town’s infrastructure and assets. The other two per cent will be going towards operating expenses and service delivery.
This is the first tax increase for Drayton Valley residents since 2017. The last adjustment to the tax rate was a 10 per cent cut in taxes in 2019.
In a statement, the Town says this increase was needed to continue offering a high standard of service and ensure the community’s assets are properly maintained.
Other highlights of the 2022 Operating Budget include increased funding for snow removal, the desludging of the lagoons at the Water Treatment Planet which is hoped to reduce the odours that nearby residents experience, and four new crosswalks.
The Operating Budget also includes the first round of operating expenses for the new Drayton Valley Brazeau Aquatic Centre, scheduled to open in fall 2022.
In a statement, Drayton Valley mayor Nancy Dodds says this budget continues positive momentum.
“We understand that the last few years have been hard on our community,” says Dodds. “But Council and I are looking forward to the future and are excited about the direction Drayton Valley is headed.”
The complete budget can be reviewed on the Town of Drayton Valley website.
