The Drayton Valley Thunder had a successful weekend at the AJHL Showcase.
Their first game was on Oct. 2, where they shut out the Canmore Eagles 4-0.
Andrew Larson for the Thunder got the first goal of the game, with the assist from Hunter Price and Stephen Kirkpatrick. At the end of the first, it was 1-0 for the Thunder.
The Thunder scored two more in the second. Evan Forrest scored unassisted, followed by Brett Bamber getting the assist from Kadyn Chabot. The score was 3-0 for the Thunder at the end of the second period.
In the third, Hunter Price got the assist from Quinton Gove to make the final score 4-0 for the Thunder. Jackson Berry was in net for the Thunder, and made 24 saves.
The Thunder’s second game of the weekend, was on Oct. 3, where they faced the Calgary Canucks. The Thunder beat the Canucks 5-2.
The Canucks got the scoring going when Daron Cyr got the assist from Aidan Moore. The Thunder responded, however, with two of their own from Kadyn Chabot with the assist from Brett Bamber and Ethan Browne. Then Stephen Kirkpatrick scored with an assist from Hayden Fechner. The Canucks got one more in though with a goal from Ivan Kedrov with the assist from Aidan Moore. The Thunder got one more before the end of the first, with Evan Forrest getting the assist from Drew Sutton and Ethan Casper. At the end of the first, the Thunder were leading 3-2.
The Thunder got two more in before the end of the second: Ty Whitford with the assist from Kadyn Chabot and Ethan Browne, and then an unassisted goal from Kadyn Chabot. At the end of the second, it was 5-2 for the Thunder, and it remained that way for a scoreless third period.
The Thunder are back home in the Drayton Valley Omniplex on Oct. 5, where they face the Spruce Grove Saints.
