The Town of Drayton Valley is paving the way for a new retail establishment.
Town council recently heard from the developers of Galaxy Plaza. The new strip mall, to be located at 5733 – 50 Ave is set to contain a liquor store, cannabis store and two other businesses to be determined.
The visit to town council was to seek an exemption in the zoning laws. Under Drayton Valley’s current zoning laws, a cannabis store cannot open with 200 metres of another cannabis store. The location of Galaxy Plaza places it very close to F&L Cannabis.
The developers wanted an exemption, as they describe the cannabis store as being vital to the success of Galaxy Plaza.
After looking over the business plan, council concluded that they want to see business succeed in Drayton Valley, and that the new development could be innovative.
The developers are also said to have a proven track record in Drayton Valley as they are also the owners of the Shell and Tim Hortons. Galaxy Plaza will be on the same lot as the Shell and Tim Hortons.
With a proven track record and a sound development plan, town council granted the exemption.
